My love of clay started in a high school art class in my home state of South Dakota. Given the opportunity in this class to throw a pot on a wheel started my desire to someday pursue this further. In the meantime I received a degree in Fashion Retail. This was an important step in my life as it brought me to Dallas for an internship. I fell in love with Dallas and never went back. After obtaining my MBA and working for an oil company, I decided now is the time to pursue my long ago dream of clay.

I decided to take one night clay class at Eastfield College in 1990. Well that one clay class led to 16 more years of night and weekend classes and pottery seminars in Dallas and Houston. In 2005 I added another art form to my life which was fused glass. In 2006 I retired from corporate America and I began pursuing my art on a full time basis at our home on Lake Cypress Springs. Our clay studio is in the walkout basement of our home with a beautiful view of the lake. I get inspiration and creativity from our beautiful view of nature while I am on the pottery wheel. Because clay and glass really do not belong in the same studio I turned our boathouse into my glass studio. Now the decision of the day is which one of my passions do I pursue today.

I was born and raised in Dallas Texas. I received my degree in business at SMU. While working in Corporate America I met my wife and pottery partner Georgia. When Georgia and her class at Eastfield began doing Raku firings, I volunteered to help. I thought it was fun, but I thought I had no creativity. Just for fun I took the pottery class with her to see what clay was really about. That that was in 1998 and I continued classes at Eastfield College until retiring to Lake Cypress Springs in 2007.

During this time I have been very fortunate to take classes from nationally and locally known potters who were always willing to share their techniques. Rather than doing production pottery, I would rather change up each piece and make it unique in either construction or glazes. My method of glazing is spraying which gives me the ability to make unique color combinations and transitions. I get inspiration from studying other potter’s work and putting my own construction twist and glaze on each piece.
